  2. You should start your slide show with institutional information about the band and the genre/s they work in

The first shot is a low angle panning shot of one of the twin towers. Chloe if you include more details about the type of camera angles and movement this strengthens your grade.

The geometric shape of the sky scraper suggests the dominance of technology thus referencing the genre of the band.

Slide 2: You say: “He is presented as isolated and alienated from society, immediately creating a divide between different groups within the area. This then presents him as a minority making him weaker and less powerful….”

This is good but you need to emphasise that this shot reinforces the difference between ethnic groups, for example the stumbling African/American man is in stark contrast to the prosperous white business man who is reading the newspaper. This shot emphasises the racial tensions and particularly racial inequality in the USA and of course in the UK.

I like your point about the way the white man looks at the African. This reinforces the theme of racial discrimination and references slavery when the whites viewed their slaves as sub human. This attitude lead to unspeakable cruelty during the slave trade.

Some excellent inter textual references to “Roots” and to the holocaust.

There is an excellent film on at Cinema City this week called “Belle” about the child of a slave who is taken in by a British aristocratic family.

Chloe endeavour to use 3rd person in analysis. For example instead of “I” use a more objective phrase such as …..”this connotes” or “indicates”. Instead of “us” when referencing audience, say something like “this engages the audience” who “highlights to the audience”. This style strengthens you analysis and adds confidence and sophistication to your case study.

Well done for a first case study in Year 13, mid to strong Level 3.

  3. I've just deleted my first comment because it is no longer relevant. An encouraging start to Year 13 coursework.

  4. You need to upload your case study on the use of media language in the Echo Smith's track. If you are having any problems with this please let me know Chloe.
