Coco and the Butterfield's EPs

It is important that my digipak reflects both the song and the band effectively and therefore by researching their previous cases for their EP's, I am able to identify their target audience and what the band are trying to present.
'See The Sun' EP.   The front cover predominantly features their logo, immediately establishing them as a band. This logo is then a continuous motif used in their other EP's and other promotional items such as posters and merchandise (t-shirts etc). Their audience can then identify the band when they see the logo making it an appropriate feature to include in my own digipak design. The simplicity of the EP then highlights this logo, and since it is their first one, it allows their logo and band name to be established and easily identified for their audience.

'Fip Fok' EP. The banner is extremely prominent on the front cover and is a great logo to feature on my digipak. The image I will use will feature one of the characters in our music video and therefore this logo will fit around it providing a neat and organised composition. A front cover that is too busy distracts the audience from the name of the band and what they're promoting. Therefore by simply using an image and a logo keeps it concise and effective, much like this EP which clearly states the band name and the EP name leaving no room for confusion for their target audience.

'King Of The Corner' EP.  The logo is yet again featured making it appropriate to feature somewhere on my digipak. The background also reflects and suits the genre of the music, folk. It has associations with folk tale and fairy tales making the theme of adventure and fantasy extremely relevant to the band's music style. Linking to the prominent theme of fairy tales in my music video, these associations are extremely appropriate in representing the band and music video in order to appeal to our target audience.

'Warriors' Single. Whilst this is not an EP, the promotional aspect of the song in which we have created a music video for, is crucial in helping my group and I understand the band's intentions of the song. The picture clearly depicts different types of warriors (using the band members) and is therefore strongly linked to our music video with the portrayal of different fairy tales and the warrior aspect of that. Therefore, the picture of one of our characters is extremely apt for our front cover of the digipak by closely linking to the theme of Warriors, which is our intention.

Initial Print Production Ideas

This is one of the first mise en scene featured in our music video and shows an intertextual reference to the film adaptation - "Alice in Wonderland" which is also our first fairy tale featured in our music video. The teacup is a crucial aspect of it therefore making it a suitable front cover (or inside cover) for our digipak. The bright and vivid colours also reflect the joyful pace of the song, therefore making it a good representation of the band for their consumers. Our audience will be ranging from 15-25 years old and therefore the fairytale aspect will appeal to the younger generation whilst for the older target of our audience, it will create a nostalgic effect.
Whilst this is only one of the four fairytales featured in our music video, the striking imagery with the landscape and costume is appropriate for our chosen band and their consumer. I then went on to edit this photo - 1. by enhancing the colours, 2. by taking the colour out so that it has a faded sepia tone. On asking my peers - who fit the age range - the coloured version was preferred and I will therefore take this into account when choosing the photo that will feature on the front of the cd.

This image was taken at the UEA Lake, the same location featured in our music video, and I enhanced the colours so that it was more striking in order to catch our target audience's eye. However, this will most likely not be chosen to go on the front of the digipak as it isn't as relevant as the previous images and therefore doesn't reflect the song well enough. But it can still go on the inside since it still has the magical feel that I am looking for in order to represent the song and "Coco and the Butterfields", and it compliments the other photographs with the natural imagery.
Like the swan image, these last two images would be most suitable either on the back or inside of the cd since it doesn't represent the song as much as the previous images. However, the forest image would work nicely on the back of the cd, should the Hansel & Gretel image be used (above) for the front. It would compliment the image and fit in with the forest/lake imagery of the front.
This photo would work well behind where the cd would be placed as its circular shape would compliment that of the disc. It also reflects the flower imagery featured in our music video throughout, making it a suitable picture to feature in the cd.
